In mid-April, we kicked off another adventure — our second international mega journey of 2025! This trip isn't just a vacation; it represents a significant leap towards our ambitious goal of exploring all seven continents. On April 18, 2025, we celebrated a milestone moment as we touched down in the vibrant city of Sydney, officially marking our fifth continent together.

After months of meticulous planning and anticipation, the excitement was palpable. Whether you're hunting for travel inspiration, keen on following our adventures, or eager to learn more about the wonders of Australia, we invite you to explore our carefully crafted Australian Odyssey Itinerary below.

The macro journey - flying from US to Australia: The journey is a long one to say the least, to get from the east coast to Sydney is a 10,000-miles. The circumference of the earth is 24,901 miles, so one way this time puts us 40% of the way around the world. In fact, if you drilled a hole through the earth in New York City, you would end up a bit off the west coast of the Indian Ocean near Perth in West Australia - one of the destinations on our trip. We planned a break for ourselves in the LA area to refresh a bit after the long flight from Jersey before the long flight to Sydney.

The "macro" journey: long flight from EWR to LAX with a break in LA both ways. Then the mega flights from LAX to Sydney and back.

Now, the really fun stuff - what we have in store in Australia:

To build some familiarity with where we're going, reference the map below. We enter Australia through Sydney and immediately connect to Hobart, Tasmania. Over the course of three weeks, we traverse the south coast of Australia from east to west before heading to Exmouth in the northwest to experience Ningaloo Reef.

Our step-by-step plan of adventuring coast to coast in Australia. Starting from the east in Sydney, venturing through Tasmania then South Australia, then to Western Australia and back.

In our circumstance, we had the time to dedicate to exploring the continent. As such, our itinerary was ambitious.

In Tasmania we would target to explore Bruny Island and cruise for wildlife sitings and spectacular scenery in Adventure Bay and the Southern Ocean. We also planned to explore Hobart the capital of the state. Here we would check out the Museum of the Old and New Art and also have a visit at the Bonorong wildlife sanctuary. Our intent was to see the abundant Australian wildlife and see the endangered Tasmanian devils. Before leaving Tasmania, we would spend several days in Freycinet National Park along the eastern shore.

From there we target Adelaide, South Australia as a base for a bit. From here we would tour the Barossa wine valley before making a three-day expedition to Kangaroo Island just off the southern Australia coast. Midway through the trip we would have a lower key few days in Adelaide.

We target Western Australia and the city of Perth as our base there. In West Australia we aim to visit the Indian Ocean for the first time. In addition, a one-day expedition to Rottnest Island, the only place on earth that is home to quokkas. The last new location would be Exmouth in the northwest of Australia, home to a dramatic coastline and our gateway to the Ningaloo Reef.

Fingers crossed for great weather, much interaction with wildlife, and a fantastic adventure! Cheers!
