One of the main reasons we journeyed all the way to Australia was to experience the very unique wildlife that is endemic to the continent. Tasmania, being an island has much of these animals but a few others that we just had to see on our trip. To maximize our experience, a night tour of the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (approx. 30 mins from Hobart) was a must-have stop on our journey.
This stop was on the 2nd night of our trip. So far, we had seen our first wallaby in the wild and encountered many seals on the cruise near Bruny Island.
Here, we would have a tour with one of the specialists and participate in a part of the evening feeding routine.
We would meet up close and personal the following: Tasmanian devils, wombats, kangaroos, kookaburras, tawnies, opossums, multiple varieties of quolls, cockatoos, and others.
We loved the opportunity to observe and interact with all these species that we could only see on this special continent. Especially to see the Tasmanian devil, endemic to Tasmania of course and an endangered species.
The Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary has such an incredible mission to house and rehabilitate injured animals that are brought in. We're especially grateful for their noble work and having the chance to visit and experience the Tasmanian wildlife.
