After the Australia trip, we had a few weeks in the US to recoup before embarking on the next adventure. In early June, we would explore the northwest US and parts of British Columbia.

Map of the U.S. showing flight paths and a road trip. Orange and green lines indicate flights to Spokane and home. Blue line shows a road trip.
Our travel plan for the northwest trip.

The Great Northwest itinerary featuring Glacier National Park and the International Selkirk Loop would run as follows:

  1. Flying to Spokane, WA (with connection in Denver) - from Philly actually - more on that later

  2. Drive from Spokane, WA and explore Couer d'Alene, Idaho - because you must visit the town that has a song named after it by "The Head and the Heart"

  3. A few days enjoying Sandpoint, ID at the southern part of the Selkirk loop

  4. Drive to Nelson, BC for a few days of exploration

  5. A stop in Creston, BC before re-entering the US

  6. A few days in West Glacier to take in the western side of this gorgeous and massive National Park

  7. Several days stay at the Many Glacier Lodge in the east side of Glacier BP, in close proximity to countless hiking trails

  8. Scenic drive from Many Glacier to Bozeman, MT where we would recuperate before going home

  9. A sneak into Mammoth Hot Springs at the very north part of Yellowstone National Park

  10. Flight home from Bozeman

Map showing a route from Spokane, WA, to Bozeman, MT, marked in blue. Route passes landmarks like Glacier Nat'l Park. Route: 1074 miles.
This would be our first time in Idaho, British Columbia, and Montana. We scoped out quite the road trip to soak in this beautiful region of the world.

Welcome to Couer d'Alene!

We adjusted and flew from Philly a day earlier - WHY? well during this time was the mess of air traffic control in Newark. Even more importantly, the night before the new departure date - We saw VAMPIRE WEEKEND at the Met in Philadelphia. They are such ridiculous musicians - and when you need two drums sets - it's automatically a winner! Here is some video - got to love "Ice Cream Piano" - beware of the heavy strobe light action!

Vampire Weekend in Philly! It was so good we saw them in Jersey a few months later!
