Time in Fremantle and saying goodbye to Australia

After adventuring at the Ningaloo Reef, we flew back to Perth for a couple of days of down time before the big trip home.

The time in Fremantle was just what we needed. Low key time around the beach and the local shoppes, and a couple of restful days at the Warders Hotel. (And no harm to enjoy one more Australian Gin & Tonic!) As always, Australia delivered the most beautiful sunsets.

The rest was needed. We were on the opposite side of the earth from the northeast US. Pretty much as far away as we could be and still be on land.

Over the next three days we would be in three time zones. A four-hour flight from Perth to Sydney. (The sunset shot below was from that flight). Sleep. A fourteen-hour flight from Sydney to Los Angeles. We would live May 7th twice. Sleep in LA. Then the six-hour flight home to NJ after a seven hour delay due to air traffic issues in Newark. Good thing we made a critical Tim-Tam purchase before departure!

What a close to an epic odyssey in Australia.

Perth to Sydney: 2,040 miles

Sydney to LA: 7,536 miles

LA to Newark: 2,462 miles

Total, one-way: 12,038 miles

Total, round-trip: 24,076 miles + 7 domestic flights in Australia. The Earth is 24,900 miles around.

We would need to nap a lot before heading for Montana...
